Contextual Information

A local recollection has Kevin as a 17 year old being included in the WA team to travel to Tasmania in 1948 on a DC3 to compete in the National championships. The story is that there were no seats and the team sat on the floor and that once there the results were poor due to severe rain. The captain was Bill Mellows. This story is inaccurate because the National Championships in 1948 were held in Brisbane and WA did not field a team. WA did send a team to Hobart for the 1948/49 (December to January) competition, but Kevin King is not listed in the team published in the newspaper. Nevertheless, he may have been included as a reserve. The recollection may also refer to Kevin’s inclusion in the 1954/55 State Team that travelled to the National Championships in Hobart in 1955.
