“Perth Rifle Club Won by W P Tobias April 1904”

Contextual Information

The format for the competition is unusual in that competitors had to deliberately score a 66 which is less than the maximum possible of 70. The first range of 200 yards is no longer used in our sport being considered too short. However, in 1904 this was still considered a competitive distance given that many rifles being used at the time were not as accurate as the incoming (.303) calibre that became standard of the sport.
