Puppet Heads

c. 1918 - 1923
Historical information

The Narrogin Doll factory was in production for five years between 1918 and 1923. Due to import restrictions after WW1, there was a shortage of dolls. The factory started as a husband-and-wife team Grace and Chris Burkitt but expanded to employing 10 girls and 20 outworkers. The workers hand crafted all the dolls out of papier-mâché. All the clothes and wigs were also added at the factory.
