“WA State Team at Sydney 1927” “Standing: L Hicks (Bally Bally) attached, EC Gare (Perth), A Bosusto (Boulder), FW Allsop (Chairman NRA), AW Welch (Captain), JF Ryle (Coach), EQ Townsend (Merredin), JS Eastmon (Manager), WE Robertson (Leonora), GE Payne (Capel), W Casley (Coach, Kalgoorlie). This team could be said to represent a changing of the guard. The team includes champions of the past and future. W Garrity won the 1910 and 1927 King's while EC Gare had won the 1926 King's and would win the 1933 King's and 1937 Grand Aggregate. ALH Ainsworth would win the 1935 Grand Aggregate and place highly in subsequent King's competitions. He would represent WA many times from the 1920's to the late 1960s. NC Blurton would similarly have a significant record from the 1920s to 1960s. Welch and Ryle had contributed greatly to the establishment and management of NRA and the sport generally.
