Entrance Gates

Overview

Decorative panels that define the forecourt entrance to the Civic Centre

Historical information

This series of screens on the forecourt of the Civic Centre refers to aspects of life in Wanneroo. The Garden responds to the marketing gardening industry. The Kitchen highlights what is done with the fresh produce grown within the market gardens. The Tool Shed refers to the “make do” attitude of the early settlers. The Wanneroo Museum in the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre (opposite the entrance to the Civic Centre) houses a wonderful collection of old tools, including the Dhimitri handmade market garden tools, some of which are rakes with nails as tynes. The Industrial Workshop also responds to the hardy attitude of fabricating what was needed on the spot. There were no trips to Bunnings in the early history of the region. The end walls of the artwork with their cast iron hybrid tools add to the story with decorative foliage carved ends and the corrugated iron reverse side.
