Virtual Visit #36 - 10th Anniversary of the Post-1945 Gallery
Part of a series of Virtual Visit posts relating to the Australian Army Museum of Western Australia entitled “10th Anniversary of the Post-1945 Gallery" which was officially opened in 2010.
Amazingly, it is now 10 full years since the Post 1945 Gallery was officially opened in 2010. Over half of our current volunteers, have no personal experience of the Museum without this Gallery. The Post 1945 Gallery was the pivotal first step of the Museum enhancement program as it expanded to fill the spaces vacated by the University Regiment in Barracks Building 17. It is timely therefore to reflect on the progress and success of the Museum and to recognise and honour the contribution of all those who contributed to this Gallery.

The Australian Army Museum of Western Australia was closed to volunteers and the public for extended periods during the COVID-19 pandemic beginning in March 2020. One outcome was the creation of an expanded on-line presence through a weekly Virtual Visit post. The initial response encouraged the Museum over the following three tears, to continue the series. Virtual Visits normally focused on an object or theme from the collection. The general format was to link the story of the object and its significance. with web links and related materials to facilitate a continuing journey of self-discovery.
