Overview

B/W print. Looking north from the corner of St Quentin Avenue (then Diver Street) to the railway station. On western side, an open picket fence followed by 2 storey brick building. On the side of the verandah is the notice [BEALE PIANOS GRAND PRIX LONDON / J.C. ARTER. HOUSE & LAND / AGENT ]. Hanging from the verandah is a notice [ MRS POOLE'S / TEAROOMS ]. Woman in a long frock and large hat with a small girl by the hand are walking on footpath. On the eastern side is a row of shops, the lower one with [RICKARDS ] on the verandah : the next one [ W.CHERRY & CO DYERS & CLEANERS ]. Two horse and carts are parked outside shops and several people are on the footpath. The railway station buildings, overhead bridge and white picket fence with a tourer car with the hood folded down in front of it are at the northern end of Bay View Terrace. Across the top of the photo is printed [BAY VIEW TERRACE, CLAREMONT, W.A.]

Historical information

Comments: Behind fence on left hand side lived Braach family (see p181.85), carriers who also trained horses for the army. Land later became site of first open air picture theatre.
