Overview

A sepia copy of a group portrait taken in a bushland setting. Reputed to be a potrait of Subiaco's first Municipal Council in 1897, however could also be of the first Roads Board and Local Board of Health which were elected the previous year.
In this image twelve men are arranged in three rows, with the Mayor and another four men seated on a fallen tree trunk. Five men stand behind the tree trunk, with another two men stretched out on the ground in front. All men wear suits with waistcoats, shirt and ties. Three also carry umbrellas, and Mayor Doyle is wearing a pocket watch and chain.
Men which are suggested to be in the photograph include: Charles Hart, Richard Gee, Joseph Lake, W.W. North (Town Clerk), Harry Doyle (Mayor), Mr. Cambell (Engineer) Councillor Hewson, and T. W. Hetherington.
