2008Names on Kirup War Memorial
The Kirup War Memorial is a white painted obelisk located in RSL Park, on the corner of Upper Capel Road and South Western Hwy. On the south side and front (east) face are two white marble plaques with the names of 67 soldiers who died in World War 1.The names of 45 servicemen and women from World War 2 are listed on a plaque on the north face.
The Kirup War Memorial was originally built to commemorate those residents of the town and surrounds who served in World War One. The names of those who served in World War Two were added to the memorial at a later date.
On 11 July 1920 , Mr A. A. Wilson, M.L.A., unveiled the local roll of honour in the form of a beautifully proportioned obelisk in brick and marble in front of a crowd of about 200 people.
